Our History

Notorious for ROCKINACOUSTICBLUESROCK The MICHIGAN MAFIA STRING BAND is fully armed with a very talented gang of West Michigan gunslingers that deliver Killer sounds no matter the musical neighborhood !

The Michigan Mafia String Band has been playing and entertaining people from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to Indiana and Ohio for the last 9 years. Playing rockin’ acoustic bluegrass, some sweet country along with a little Swing thrown in just to keep you movin’ has earned them an eclectic group of fans. The MMSB plays songs you love, some are classics, some are destined to be classic, all of them are performed in a powerful acoustic way.

Mark Zickefoose (Foose):
Foose is the GodFather of the Mafia. It is his vision and talent that provides the foundation for the Michigan Mafia String Band.
Raised in the remote western hills of West Virginia, listening to the legends the like of, Lester Flatt, Ray Charles, BB King and the Altman Brothers, molded his talent to what it is today. He’s a true story teller, and it’s his powerful rhythm guitar chops that carry the tunes through.
Scott “Captain Buck” Robinson
Scott, (Captain Buck) pound for pound is the happiest hitman of the Mafia! His jokes keep us all laughing. His experience has had him performing with blues, jazz, country and bluegrass bands spanning 40 years in Western and Central Michigan. Licensed to pilot the big ships on our Great Lakes, we are glad to have him piloting the Mafia sound with his right on bass line.
Jeff Sipe
Jeff comes to the Mafia with over 40 years playing experience. His teen years were spent listening to the progressive rock sounds of Pink Floyd, YES, and RUSH. At the same time Jeff was following the progressive rock scene, his dad – playing and singing with his Gibson Dove for family and friends, was also molding Jeff’s taste and talent. We are happy to have him and his outstanding lead licks playing for the Mafia.
Dan Seabolt
Dan Seabolt, a.k.a. Danny, at the age of 12, began studying with master guitar player John King of "The Oat Bran Boys" focusing on music theory and technique. Over the past thirty years he has continued to play with "The Oat Bran Boys" at such places as The Red Rooster Tavern on Scenic Dr. in Muskegon Michigan. They can be heard (and seen) every Wednesday night serenading dinner guests. He also performs with his brother Dave's band, "Free Wheelin", based in Big Rapids Michigan.
Dan has opened concerts for such musicians and bands such as Riders in the Sky, Doc Watson, Vasser Clements, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Porter Wagner, Jeff Carson, and many more. He has been featured on recordings by various artists and many TV and radio commercials. His most recent recording and touring include performances with the award winning singer/songwriter Ruth Bloomquist and her husband, bassist Max Bloomquist. They have been enjoyed by audiences throughout the United States as well as France, Belgium, and England.
